...that on this day in 1938 Orson Welles scared the daylights out of thousands of average Americans with the presentation of his radio play 'War of the Worlds?' The play, an adaptation of a novel by the same name, was a dramatization of a Martian invasion, but many listeners didn't realize it was a play -- and instead thought they were listening to reporting of actual events.
