... that today is Mark Spitz Day? In 1972, Mark Spitz won the first of his seven gold medals at the Munich summer Olympics. He set a new world record of 2 minutes, 7/10ths of a second in the 200-meter butterfly. An Olympics swimmer finally beat the record 36 years later -- Michael Phelps won eight gold medals in Olympics 2008.
