Move Over and Make Room for Roomba
My dream gift, for myself, is the Roomba. After a busy day of getting the kids to and from school, working, food shopping, doing laundry, and making meals, the very last thing I want to do is clean the floor. I keep hoping somebody will discover a way for me to clone myself. In 1877, Thomas Edison wrote a letter to the president of the Telegraph Company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, suggesting that when people answer the phone, they use the word "Hello" instead of the word "Ahoy" as suggested by Alexander Graham Bell. By 1889, central telephone exchange operators were known as hello-girls due to the association between the greeting and the telephone.
